Hoya carmelae was discovered by Ulysses Ferreras in Luzon, Province of Isabela, Municipality of Maconacon, Brgy. Reina Mercedes, Mt. Pinatubo, at an elevation of 1100 m. This exquisite plant was published in 2010. The region experiences an average temperature ranging from 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. While it can tolerate our current conditions of 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit, Hoya carmelae thrives and grows at its best in lower temperatures. The cooler climate and shorter daylight hours create the perfect environment for abundant blossoms. Truly a magnificent addition to any plant collector's treasure trove.

This Hoya tolerates a drier environment. However, it could still benefit from light humidity care, including misting and grouping together with other houseplants. May require humidifier in cooler, drier months.

This hoya does not require high heat, but does not tolerate cold as well as other varieties.

This plant has evolved to shift color when exposed to bright sunlight, much like a human getting a tan. This does not harm the plant with proper care.
