Hoya walliniana, named after the Swedish Hoya collector Pierre Wallin, is a unique and rare plant that is endemic to the lowland forests of Borneo (Sabah and Sarawak). Published by Dale Kloppenburg and Torill Nyhuus in 2003, this Hoya is a challenging yet rewarding addition to any advanced grower's collection.

With its preference for very wet environments, it requires careful attention and is not well-suited for beginners. Although the plant can be unforgiving of mistakes, it is worth the effort to see it bloom, as it features small, delicate flowers that are quite pretty.

While it may not be easy to grow, the beauty and rarity of Hoya walliniana make it a sought-after gem for dedicated plant enthusiasts.

Care Needs

Bright Light

No barrier between the plant and the light source. Ex: Directly under a grow light, in a sunny window with no curtains or trees.

Low Humidity: Ideally Above 40%

This Hoya tolerates a drier environment. However, it could still benefit from light humidity care, including misting and grouping together with other houseplants. May require humidifier in cooler, drier months.

Loves Heat: Lowest 70F/21C

This hoya does not do well in cold conditions, so be sure to keep in a greenhouse or other temperature controlled space.

Does Sunstress

This plant has evolved to shift color when exposed to bright sunlight, much like a human getting a tan. This does not harm the plant with proper care.
